ZEE5 original web series High Priestess is a power-packed horror-thriller that revolves around the story of a tarot card reader who uses her abilities to speak with the supernatural elements. Directed by Pushpa Ignatius, the series stars Amala Akkineni who makes her digital debut. High Priestess also marks the Tollywood actress’ return as the main lead after years. She is seen essaying the lead role of Swathi who helps people solve mysterious cases with her tarot card reading skills. Here are some facts that you probably didn’t know about the talented actress.

1. Amala is part of the legendary Akkineni clan
The Akkineni family is one of the most prominent ones in Telugu cinema. Amala is part of the clan that boasts of some of the finest Telugu actors like Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Akhil, and Samantha. She, however, the first from her family to set foot in the digital space.
2. She is an animal welfare activist
After her successful journey in the industry consisting of 20 odd years, Amala began an NGO to work for the welfare of animals with the help of her husband Nagarjuna. The organisation is called Blue Cross which has rescued more than 4 lakh animals till now. Her efforts were also recognised by the world-renowned PETA.

The Southern superstar is a woman of many talents. But did you know that she’s also a trained classical dancer? She has even done stage shows early on in her career and holds a bachelor’s degree in Bharatnatyam. As she was quite popular in the dance circles, she was offered a film which ultimately became the high-point of her career.

So far the actress has worked in over 60 films in six different languages including Telugu and Malayalam and has had a glittering career at the box office. She has received the Filmfare Award twice in her career. Back in the ’90s, Amala was a force to reckon with in the south cinema.

Amala proudly supports many environmental, educational and other causes. The actress-turned-activist even took steps to promote rainwater harvesting, and solar electricity by carrying out one such project at her house itself. She, therefore, set an example for her fans to follow. Amala is a champion of various causes like these and takes pride in her charity work.
