ZEE5’s original Marathi series Hutatma starring Anjali Patil and Vaibhav Tatwawaadi among others tells the story of the Samyukta movement, that led to the creation of Maharashtra with Mumbai as its capital. The show captures the era of 1950s perfectly and this first picture is proof.

Lead character Vidyut (played by Anjali) is a die-hard Raj Kapoor fan and in this scene, she is watching a film starring him. From the small cinema hall to the black and white film onscreen, this scene captures the essence of 1950s effortlessly.

This scene shows Mumbai-previously known as Bombay- from the 19th century and the sets of the show do full justice to the narrative. From the buildings to the barren roads, each element has been taken care of with perfection.
5. The Panchbhumi enjoy a meal together
In this scene, we get introduced to the big wigs of the series such as Mohan Agashe, Vikram Gokhale and Sachin Khedekar. The actors are seen discussing political affairs, as they relish their mutton and drinks. The setting of the house here is on point and another example of the brilliant depiction of the 1950s’ era in the series.

No longer do politicians wear the Gandhi cap in today’s time but this scene from Hutatma is a reminder that it was religiously worn by most politicians, back in the day. Here, Morarji Desai is seen taking a meeting with his fellow workers.
