While Marathi cinema has evolved and become bigger and better, films showing bold content are still a rarity. Sexually explicit scenes continue to be considered a taboo but ZEE5’s Original Marathi series Sex, Drugs And Theatre aims to put an end to the stigma. The series is set to release on March 5 on ZEE5, and going by its trailer, Marathi content is set to enter a whole new realm with unapologetic content.

1. The plot
Don’t worry, there are no spoilers coming your way. We just aim to give you the basic gist of the show; the story revolves around six college students who come together to compete in a play. They are brought together by a college student who takes the initiative to include cultural activities to reduce stress, after his friend commits suicide.
These six students who are battling drug addiction and sexuality, come together and find their true identities. The series deals with some of the major issues that millennials deal with on a regular basis.
2. The actors
The series features Shalva Kinjawadikar, Mitali Mayekar, Nayannah Mukey, Aadish Vaidya, Suyassh Zunzurke, Abhishek Deshmukh, Sujay Dahake, Pravin Tarde and Sunil Barve.
3. The creator
The creator of the series is national-award winning director Sujay Dahake, who is best known for his film Shala. In an interview, Sujay said, “Sex, Drugs & Theatre is an intense college drama. College theatre and theatre competitions have always been dear to the Marathi audience. Also, sex and drugs are huge taboo in our society.
So, what happens when these worlds collide? The show will portray Marathi youth in a never-before-seen manner – cool, vibrant, raw, yet rooted.”
4. The structure of the series
The series will unfold in a span of 10 episodes.
