Navrati Special: Don’t Forget To Try Out These 5 Fasting Recipes

During the fasting season, these 5 simple and easy recipes will keep you energised all-day-long. Watch these recipes and try it in your kitchen.

1. Sabudana Popcorn

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Durga came down on earth to kill the evil Mahishasur. During this fight, she took nine avatars which are worshipped during the nine days of Navratri. In Maharashtra, this festival is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and fun. Some people avoid eating non-vegetarian food while some fast during these days. Today, we bring you these five quick and easy recipes that you can have during your fasts.

To make this recipe you will need:

  • 1 bowl soaked sabudana
  • 1 cup curd
  • 2 tbsp processed cheese
  • 3 tsp coriander
  • 2 tsp black salt
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp mint leaves
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste

Directions:

  • Take a bowl and add 1 cup curd, 1 tsp black pepper powder, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp coriander, 1 tsp mint leaves, 1 tsp roasted cumin powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp black salt and mix it nicely.
  • Next, take another bowl and add 1 bowl soaked sabudana and mash it with hands.
  • Add 2 tsp salt, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1 tsp black salt, 1 tsp oregano, 1 tsp coriander, 2 tsp corn flakes and 1 tbsp cheese.
  • Mix all the ingredients.
  • Take a small portion of the sabudana mixture and make balls.
  •  Deep fry them in oil.

2. Upvas Pakoda

To make this recipe you will need:

  • 1 tsp peanut powder
  • 1 cup shredded sweet potato
  • 1 tbsp sabudana flour
  • 2 boiled potatoes
  • 1 1/2 tbsp amaranth flour
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp green chilli
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste

Directions:

  • Take a bowl and add 1 cup shredded sweet potato, 1 tsp peanut powder, 1 1 tbsp sabudana flour, 1 1/2 tbsp amaranth flour, 1 tsp diced green chilli, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp coriander and 2 mashed potatoes.
  • Mix all the ingredients nicely.
  • Take a small portion of the mixture and shape them like pakoda.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil for deep frying.
  • Deep fry the pakodas in oil and transfer it to a serving dish.

3. Strawberry Kheer

To make this recipe you will need:

  • 1 bowl boiled milk
  • 1 cup soaked sabudana
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup Ghavle(a mixture of wheat flour, semolina and milk)
  • 1 tsp almonds
  • 1 tsp cashews
  • 1 tsp strawberry crush
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder

Directions:

  • Take a frying pan and add 1 tbsp ghee.
  • Add 1 cup ghavle and let it cook on ghee.
  • Take another pan and add 1 cup water, 1 cup sabudana, 1 cup fried ghavle, 1 bowl boiled milk, 2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp strawberry crush, 1 tsp cardamom powder, 1 tsp cashew, 1 tsp almonds, 1 tsp vanilla essence.
  • Once it is cooked, transfer it to a serving bowl.

4. Rajgira Upma

To make this recipe you will need:

  • 1 cup boiled rajgira
  • 2 tsp roasted peanuts
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp diced green chilli
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste

Directions:

  • Take a kadai and add 1 tbsp ghee, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp diced green chilli, 1 cup rajgira, 2 tsp roasted peanuts, 2 cups hot water, salt to taste and 1 tsp red chilli powder.
  • Stir and mix the ingredients.
  • Cover the Kadai with a lid and wait for five minutes.
  • Once the water in the Upma reduces, move it to a plate.
  • Serve it hot.

5. Bhagar Idli

To make this recipe you will need,

  • Half bowl sabudana flour
  • 1 bowl samo seeds (Bhagar)
  • 1 tbsp curd
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions:

  • Take a bowl and add 1 bowl samo seeds, half bowl sabudana flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tbsp curd and 1 cup water.
  • Make a paste and keep the batter aside for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Take the idli steamer tray and grease it with oil.
  • Add the batter in the tray and keep it inside the steamer for 5 to 6 minutes.
  • Once done, move them to a plate and serve them with green chutney.
